In the belly of uncertainty

Are you in the belly of uncertainty? What swallowed you won’t digest you.

Jonah wasn’t saved when the fish vomited him out; he was saved when the fish swallowed him. It seems backward, doesn’t it?

Well, it was in the belly of that fish, not outside of it, that Jonah cried out, “Salvation is of the Lord.”

The giant fish didn’t chew its catch for three days and three nights.

But the miracle is even twofold: the fish couldn’t digest Jonah, and Jonah survived not just the terror, but also the inconvenience, of living in a fish’s belly for three days and three nights.

God commanded the fish not to chew, not to digest, and not to destroy Jonah. Can you say with Jonah, even in the belly of uncertainty, “Salvation is of the Lord”?

This story reminds me of an exchange between a young girl and her teacher. The teacher mockingly criticized those who believed the story of Jonah.

But the little lady boldly replied, “The Bible says Jonah was swallowed by a fish, and I believe it.

Even if the Bible had said that Jonah swallowed the fish, I would still believe it!”

Hallelujah! God is able to save to the uttermost those who trust Him (Hebrews 7:25).

No matter how impossible your situation may seem right now, it’s not worse than being inside a fish’s belly.

Just as Jonah declared, “Salvation is of the Lord,” so will the Lord come and save you, and that, right early.

Reflection Question: Can you say with Jonah, even in the belly of uncertainty, “Salvation is of the Lord”?
